Michael has been practicing business law for more than 15 years. He regularly advises both small and large businesses, investors and business owners in matters relating to starting a business, mergers and acquisitions, commercial financings, tax driven reorganizations, commercial real estate, regulatory compliance matters, shareholder agreements and succession and estate planning. Michael has been very fortunate to have worked with several of the province’s leading business lawyers during his early career which contributed immensely to his professional development.

Michael is ranked nationally both by the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory and Best Lawyers® Canada in the areas of Banking and Finance Law, Corporate Law, Real Estate Law and Aboriginal Law. Karen is a tax and corporate lawyer whose practice is focused on corporate and personal tax planning for business owners. She advises clients on tax and corporate matters relating to corporate reorganizations, sales and acquisitions of businesses, and estate planning. Karen’s practice also includes advising on GST/HST and other commodity tax matters for business owners, charitable organizations and others. Additionally, Karen has significant experience in tax litigation and dispute resolution with the Canada Revenue Agency, including broad experience with appeals to the Tax Court of Canada, applications to provincial superior courts for rectification and other discretionary relief, applications for judicial review in the Federal Court of Canada and Federal Court of Appeal and applications to the CRA’s Voluntary Disclosures Program.

Karen is frequently contacted by leading legal, accounting, and financial advisors for advice and formal opinions on a variety of complex tax matters.  Her unique skill-set and experience has positioned her as a highly sought-after resource within the New Brunswick business community.   

Karen completed the CPA In-depth HST/GST course in 2016 and Level II of the CICA (now CPA) In-Depth Tax Course in 2011. She holds an LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick (2008), LL.M. from the University of Toronto (2014) and was an Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick in 2014 and 2015 where she taught upper-year courses including Business Organizations, Personal Taxation, Corporate Taxation and International Taxation. Karen is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Tax Foundation.

Natalie is a corporate, commercial and real estate lawyer who advises clients on matters relating to corporate governance and organization, corporate finance and securities, estate planning, and purchase and sale transactions (including acquisitions by way of share purchase, asset purchase or the purchase of real property).  In addition, Natalie has extensive experience with drafting and reviewing contracts for several provincial, national and international  businesses.

Natalie has a passion for developing and contributing to the management and upkeep of the comprehensive knowledge management system at Connors Stilwell. This system allows the firm to deliver superior efficiency in the delivery of legal services to its clients.

Matt is a litigator with a practice focused on resolving business disputes, whether corporate, commercial, employment or tax in nature.  Before joining Connors Stilwell, Matt worked with some of Atlantic Canada’s leading litigation lawyers, acquiring a wealth of knowledge and practical experience. Matt joined Connors Stilwell in order to work with a firm dedicated to business clientele where his experience litigating business disputes would compliment the firm’s other offerings and provide key litigation support for such matters as:

Born and raised in Fredericton, Leslie joins Connors Stilwell as Office Manager after nearly ten years as an accountant at a national public accounting firm.  Prior to that, Leslie worked for local area law firms for twenty years.  She is a member of the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. Having worked directly with local businesses for over a decade she brings a strong insight into the necessary financial reporting requirements the clients of Connors Stilwell require.
